CES - Outreach

The Wisconsin Idea has become a recognized concept around the United States. The democratic essence of the concept is that the university has a responsibility to disseminate the knowledge it has acquired and produced to encourage a better educated citizenry.

In support of the Wisconsin Idea, CES seeks in particular to increase awareness and understanding of the emergence of a New Europe after the end of the Cold War.

I. Activities and resources for K-12 teachers, journalists, business leaders, legislators and their staffs, and public affairs groups include:

regular conferences that bring together scholars, experts, and students from the UW-Madison, other parts of the U.S., and Europe;

a Speakers Bureau for the classroom and community;

K-12 training workshops offered by UW experts.

Annual presentation series

In 2006-07 CES is a cosponsor of the Center for the Humanities series Dante's Inferno in Wisconsin
In 2005-07 CES is a cosponsor of the Center for the Humanities series Don Quixote in Wisconsin
In 2005 CES sponsored "On the Road with Hans Christian Andersen" - a series of presentations at public libraries around the state of Wisconsin;

European Union Simulation modules for use in K-12 and undergraduate classrooms;

guest speakers from Europe (see the CES calendar);

briefing sessions on current public policy issues;

exhibits, performances, and other activities through which audiences may appreciate the cultural riches of Europe.

III. CES is also an active partner in WIOC (The Wisconsin International Outreach Consortium) a consortium of Title VI centers and programs at the UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee.
