The Center for European Studies provides funding to graduate students who intend to study or are currently engaged in the study of the following European languages:

• Danish
• Dutch (Flemish)
• Finnish
• French*
• Gaelic (Irish)
• German**
• Greek
• Icelandic
• Italian
• Norwegian
• Portuguese
• Swedish

Other Western European Languages

FLAS Fellowships may also be used - primarily in the summer - for the intensive study of other Western European languages, such as Catalan, Faroese, Cimbrian, etc... Please contact the FLAS coordinator, Csanád Siklós for more information.

Specific Notes about Languages

* Applications for the study of French will only be accepted from students intending to pursue government service or enter a professional field.
** Preference will be given to applications for the study of German from students intending to pursue government service or enter a professional field.
